A ‘down under’ adventure in Australia and New Zealand
Travelling to Australia and New Zealand, for most, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the world ‘down under’. This itinerary has been perfectly designed to cover both countries.
Spend three nights each in the waterside cities of Perth and Sydney. Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and watch the sun set over Uluru.
And in the ‘Land of the Long White Cloud’, learn Maori traditions and marvel at majestic scenery - mountain-backed lakes, glaciers, fiords and winelands.

Day 1 UK to Perth
Our VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Perth.
Day 2 Perth
Arrive in the evening and check into our hotel.
Day 3 - 4 Perth
A tour of Perth is the perfect introduction to the city. There’s time to discover the eclectic colonial port area of Fremantle, before we take a ferry back to Perth.
You’ll also have a free day - perhaps join an optional excursion to a nearby wine estate.
Day 5 Alice Springs
Fly to Alice Springs (may be indirect) and drive to ANZAC Hill, where the great view highlights the town’s compact size.
Day 6 Uluru
We’ll travel to Australia’s most famous natural spectacle, Uluru.
We make our way to the rock area as the sun begins to set.
Day 7 Uluru to Kata Tjuta to Cairns
Wake early for a glorious sunrise viewing of Uluru, before a tour of the base.
Nearby Kata Tjuta - a group of 36 red rocks soaring out of the desert - is our next destination.
Later, we fly to Cairns.
Day 8 - 10 Cairns
As well as two days at leisure in Cairns, we’ll enjoy a full-day trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
We’ll cruise to a pristine sand island on the Great Barrier Reef, with time to snorkel and experience the rock pools and fringing reef, teeming with colourful marine life.
Day 11 - 13 Sydney
We’ll fly down to Sydney, the final Australian destination of our odyssey.
We take a tour of the city and glide across the harbour on a lunch cruise.
There’s also plenty of free time to explore the sights and beaches at your own pace.
You stay at Parkroyal Darling Harbour, Sydney (4*) or similar.
Day 14 Queenstown
Leaving Australia behind, we fly to New Zealand’s South Island and arrive in Queenstown, a town on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and flanked by The Remarkables mountain range.
You stay at Heritage Queenstown (4.5*) or Millennium Queenstown (4.5*).
Day 15 Milford Sound
Milford Sound is set within the heart of Fiordland National Park - we’ll explore it by boat.
Perhaps its most impressive sight is Mitre Peak, standing 1,692m above sea level - as we sail towards it, we may even spot a dolphin or two.
Day 16 Queenstown
Enjoy a day at leisure.
The Skyline Gondola is just a short stroll from the hotel, offering views from Bob’s Peak across Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.
Those seeking something a little more adventurous may like to spend some of their free time by taking an optional helicopter flight or boat ride.
Day 17 Wanaka
Gibbston Valley Winery is one of Otago’s founding wineries - a visit is included today, for a tasting of the pinot noir for which the area is famous.
Afterwards we continue to Wanaka, home to one of New Zealand’s largest lakes.
Day 18 Franz Josef
Our drive takes us past Lake Hawea and through the Haast Pass and Mount Aspiring National Park, to embark on an exhilarating river safari on the Haast River.
We continue on to Westland National Park and the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers.
Day 19 TranzAlpine to Christchurch
We head inland and up into the spectacular Southern Alps to Arthur’s Pass.
Here, we board the award-winning TranzAlpine train for the journey to Christchurch, one of the most scenic rail routes in the world.
You stay at Chateau on the Park - Christchurch, a DoubleTree by Hilton (4*) or Crowne Plaza Christchurch(4.5*).
Day 20 Akaroa
Our destination today is historic Akaroa and its spectacular harbour, where we join a cruise sailing around an extinct volcanic crater.
We’ll keep an eye out for the local residents, including penguins, dolphins and fur seals.
Day 21 - 22 Rotorua
We fly to Rotorua on the North Island. It’s one of the ‘jewels’ of New Zealand and the heart of the Maori culture.
We’ll visit the Whakarewarewa Thermal Village and Tamaki Maori Village, where we’ll have a cultural experience complete with a traditional ‘hangi’.
Day 23 - 24 Auckland
We head north to Auckland.
Our city tour introduces us to the heart of the ‘Queen City’ and its founder, Captain Hobson, before making our way to the suburbs and Parnell Village with its quaint boutiques, restaurants and Victorian-styled shops. The rest of our time here is at leisure - perhaps take an optional cruise along Waitemata Harbour.
You stay at Grand Millennium Auckland (4.5*) or Heritage Auckland (4.5*).
Day 25 Auckland to UK
We transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
Day 26 UK
Upon arrival, your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
