Day 1 UK to Ho Chi Minh City
Our VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 2 Ho Chi Minh City
We touch down early this morning and transfer straight to our hotel.
We kick off with a guided tour of this bustling city, formerly known as Saigon, heading to the former Presidential Palace, the Opera House and the Old Saigon Post Office.
We wrap the day up with a tasting at a craft brewery.
Day 3 Ho Chi Minh City
The Cu Chi Tunnels are an incredible underground network, constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters to house troops, transport and supplies. Our visit highlights what life was like as a communist guerrilla, seeing living quarters and typical meals, and rifles, booby traps and command centres.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we return to Ho Chi Minh City.
This evening we enjoy a junk boat dinner cruise on the Saigon River.
Day 4 Cai Be
We head to Cai Be, on the Mekong Delta, for a cruise. We’ll stop at Tan Phong Island, where we take a smaller rowing boat through the canals.
Our main boat trip continues, to visit a preserved ‘Mandarin’ house, built centuries ago and to see the local trading boats and home factories that produce rice paste, rice popcorn and coconut candy.
Day 5 Danang to Hoi An
Fly to Danang and transfer to Hoi An.On our walking tour, we’ll visit former merchants’ houses, a Chinese communal hall, the market and the 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge.
We’ll pause for tea at Reaching Out, a traditional tea house that provides opportunities for locals with speech and hearing impairments.
Day 6 Hoi An
This morning we help out on a rural farm, then relax with a herbal foot bath and massage. We’ll learn how to prepare tam huu (paperless spring rolls), before sampling this irresistible delicacy.
The afternoon is at leisure in Hoi An.
Day 7 Hue
Explore the red-brick towers and sanctuaries at My Son, the former capital and religious centre of the Champa Kingdom.
Afterwards, we’ll learn how to make delicious rice paper snacks at a rural workshop. Our route to Hue takes us via the scenic Hai Van Pass (the ‘Pass of Ocean Clouds’).
Day 8 Hue
A cyclo ride through the city’s streets takes us to the Imperial Citadel. We’ll call in at a local coffee shop for a salt coffee - something of a speciality here in Hue.
After lunch, we’ll visit the Mausoleum of Tu Duc, Tu Hieu Pagoda, and Tha Om Garden House (an old royal residence, where the owner will share stories of his royal heritage).
Day 9 - 10 Hanoi
Fly to Hanoi.
Enjoy a city tour, a traditional tea ceremony and a day at leisure to explore the country’s capital.
Day 11 Mai Châu
We drive deep into rural northern Vietnam.
There’s time to relax at our ecolodge before dinner, rice wine and a traditional dance performance.
Day 12 Mai Châu
Strolling through the countryside, we’ll tour rice fields and hear about the life, culture and traditions of Vietnam’s White Thai ethnic minority.
Day 13 Hanoi
Return to Hanoi for an afternoon walking tour of the Old Quarter.
We’ll finish the day at a water puppet show.
Day 14 Halong Bay to Lan Ha Bay
We make our way to Got Harbour, where we board a modern yet traditional ship for a 2-night cruise.
We sail through Halong Bay and onto Lan Ha Bay, stopping to explore Light and Dark Water Cave.
Day 15 Lan Ha Bay to Cat Ba Island
We’ll take a smaller boat to explore Lan Ha Bay’s islets, hidden beaches and peaceful villages.
Back on the ship, enjoy another beautiful sunset and (if the skies are clear) a spot of stargazing.
Day 16 Cat Ba Island to Hanoi to UK
We arrive on Cat Ba Island to visit Army Hospital Cave, used as a secret hospital and army hideout during the American War.
After lunch on the boat, we return to Hanoi where we’ll spend the rest of the afternoon.
Late evening, we depart for the airport and your return flight to the UK.
Day 17 UK
Upon arrival, your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
