Day 1 UK to Johannesburg
Our VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your overnight flight to Johannesburg.
Day 2 Johannesburg to Pretoria
After a short tour of the nation’s capital, Pretoria, we visit the Voortrekker Monument, the dramatic Boer pioneer memorial. Later, we invite you to join your fellow travellers for welcome drinks.
Day 3 Pilgrim’s Rest to Hazyview
Today we encounter Africa’s big skies. We travel eastwards to the Drakensberg Escarpment, which separates the Highveld Plateau from the low country.
We reach Pilgrim’s Rest, a fascinating former gold rush town. Then, weather permitting, we stop for incredible views at God’s Window.
Day 4 Mala Mala
Today we set out for one of the great African experiences. Mala Mala Game Reserve rangers take us to our lodge, where after lunch we may spot stately giraffes striding by.
Later, we head out for our first afternoon game drive in a ranger-handled open safari vehicle. Expect to get close to lions, elephants and rhinos. Our ranger chooses a ‘sundowner’ spot before we set out for nocturnal game viewing.
We enjoy dinner in a reed-enclosed boma then retire to our luxurious African-style rondavels.
Day 5 Mala Mala
On today’s early morning game drive, we may spot the elusive leopard. Later, you can take an optional walking safari.
We enjoy another afternoon game drive after lunch.
Day 6 Mala Mala to Eswatini
After another early game drive, we travel south through Kruger National Park, stopping for a break at the little farming town of Malelane.
We continue into landlocked Eswatini (Swaziland), with its rolling sugar cane fields and stunning mountain scenes and stay overnight.
Day 7 Mkuze
We continue south to Golela and into KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa. Later, you can enjoy views of the legendary Ghost Mountain from our inn.
Day 8 Mkuze
After a morning perhaps enjoying the hotel pool, we embark on a game drive in the uMkhuze Game Reserve.
In the evening, we enjoy a traditional barbecue (braai) with Zulu entertainment.
Day 9 Mkuze
Today you can spend the entire day relaxing poolside. Or take an optional excursion to see Lake Jozini.
Day 10 Durban
This morning we take a cruise in iSimangaliso Wetland Park, along the wetlands of Lake St Lucia in search of hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.
Later we continue south to Durban and stay overnight.
Day 11 Durban to Gqeberha to Tsitsikamma National Park to Knysna
We fly to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and head first to Tsitsikamma National Park, now part of the Garden Route National Park.
Here we explore the pristine Storms River Mouth coastline, before heading to our hotel.
Day 12 Knysna
After a leisurely start, we board MV John Benn for a spectacular Knysna lagoon cruise, including lunch.
Day 13 Knysna
Today you’re free to enjoy the restaurants, teahouses and boutiques that dot Knysna’s beautiful natural harbour.
Day 14 George to Oudtshoorn
This morning we visit the interesting Outeniqua Transport Museum, in George.
Later we take the Outeniqua Powervan, a diesel railcar, up into the mountains to enjoy lunch and a tour of the Safari Ostrich Farm.
Day 15 Hermanus to Cape Town
We’ll travel via the arid plains of the Karoo to the Huis River Pass and re-join the coast at Hermanus. Whales can be spotted here September-November (fingers crossed).
We then follow the stunning coastal route to reach Cape Town and our lovely hotel on the Victoria & Alfred waterfront.
Day 16 Cape Town
Today we tour this truly picturesque city, taking an exhilarating cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain (weather permitting). Then you’re free to explore or join an optional winelands tour.
Day 17 Cape Town
This morning we head to the beautiful fishing village of Hout Bay, then onwards to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point lighthouse.
Later we visit Simon’s Town, an important naval base for more than two centuries; and Boulders Beach, where an African penguin colony lives in the small coves.
Day 18 Cape Town to UK
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
Day 19 UK
Upon arrival your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
