Day 1 UK to Cape Town
Our VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Cape Town.
Day 2 - 4 Cape Town
Our hotel has magnificent views of Table Mountain and distant Robben Island. On our first afternoon we explore the buzzing Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
The following day, enjoy a visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, considered Africa’s most beautiful garden. Later we take an orientation coach tour, then you’re free to explore.
On day four, you’ll enjoy a free day. During your free time, perhaps book a ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. You could visit the Cape’s fabulous winelands to taste the local wines. Or take an optional excursion to see the animals that inhabit the spectacular Cape of Good Hope; plus visit the Cape Point lighthouse, historic Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach, home to a colony of African penguins.
Day 5 Hermanus to Arniston
We head off for a scenic journey to Arniston. En route we stop in Hermanus, one of the world’s best land-based whale watching destinations.
Later we explore Arniston, a pretty Dutch colonial fishing village lying on a rugged coastline.
Day 6 Knysna
We arrive at Knysna, in the heart of the Garden Route, mid-afternoon. You can perhaps enjoy a scenic walk along the nearby Knysna River.
You stay at The Moorings (4*) or Knysna Hollow Country Estate (4*).
Day 7 Keurbooms River Nature Reserve
This morning we drive to Keurbooms River Nature Reserve and board a cruise (with lunch). The river’s a sanctuary for indigenous plant life - and home to the Cape clawless otter.
Day 8 Knysna
Today is free to explore the lovely town of Knysna. You’ll find shops offering beautiful woodwork.
Day 9 Storms River to Kariega Game Reserve
Today’s journey takes us to the mouth of Storms River, where the water crashes dramatically against the rocks.
Then we continue to Kariega Game Reserve, where our safari experience begins. We take a game drive as the animals become more active in the cool of late afternoon.
Day 10 Kariega Game Reserve
Enjoy a full day at Kariega, a family-owned reserve that’s home to the Big Five. We take two game drives looking for lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, leopards and more.
We also enjoy a river cruise, with time afterwards to join a guided bird-spotting bush walk.
Day 11 Kariega Game Reserve to Graaff-Reinet
After your fourth game drive early morning, we take a scenic drive into the Great Karoo semi-desert. You may spot black rhinos and Cape mountain zebras.
This afternoon we arrive in the beautiful town of Graaff-Reinet. There’s time to relax before a decadent dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Day 12 Graaff-Reinet to Valley of Desolation
Spend your morning on a self-guided walking tour of the museums, shops and cafes of this historic town, and visit Obesa, the world’s largest cacti collection.
This afternoon we go to see the Valley of Desolation, where volcanic rock has eroded into 120m columns.
Day 13 Willowmore to Prince Albert, Swartberg Mountains
Today’s route today takes us for lunch in quaint Willowmore. We then continue up to the beautiful Swartberg Mountains.
We stay in Prince Albert, a Karoo village set amongst tobacco plantations that merge into a vast nature reserve. Look up later to see the extraordinary star-dotted night sky.
Day 14 Swartberg Mountains to Franschhoek
After breakfast we depart for the Cango Ostrich Farm, where you can hand feed these magnificent birds.
We then join the spectacular Cape Route 62, the longest wine route in the world. Sit back and enjoy towering cliffs, crystal-clear streams and verdant forests. Lunch is included in picturesque Barrydale.
The journey continues to Franschhoek, set amidst the serene Franschhoek Mountains.
Day 15 Franschhoek
Today, why not take advantage of your ticket for the local hop-on-hop-off tram? It allows you to taste wines and cheese at local wine farms or just enjoy their beautiful gardens.
Tonight, we enjoy a very special wine pairing and fine-dining experience at Le Coin Français (the French Corner), where you’ll meet chef Darren Badenhorst.
Day 16 Franschhoek to Cape Town to UK
Enjoy some free time this morning before we transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
Day 17 UK
Upon arrival, your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
