Climate

The Cape’s abundant wildlife

South Africa’s Cape is a haven for a variety of fauna. On land, baboons, flamingos and rock hyraxes are among the creatures thriving in the wild. While on the coast and off shore you may be lucky enough to spot Cape clawless otters, Cape fur seals, humpback whales and penguin colonies. The wildlife-rich waters surrounding the Cape have also been known to attract one of the world’s most feared predator, the great white shark, although in recent years sightings have declined.

If you’re staying at Krystal Beach Hotel for 12 nights or longer you can look forward to an included excursion that visits one of the best places for whale spotting, Hermanus, where peak whale spotting season is between June and December. This historic town even has its own whale crier who alerts whale spotters to sightings with a blast on his kelp horn. You’ll also visit Betty’s Bay, home to a colony of playful penguins.
