Scottburgh
Look beyond the beautiful sandy beaches, surrounding forests and rolling hills of this attractive, thriving resort and you'll discover Scottburgh is also steeped in history. Shaka, King of the Zulus, is said to have been one of the early visitors to this area, and in 1860 an actual town was established (and named after Sir John Scott, the Lieutenant-Governor of Natal), after Byrne settlers arrived from Liverpool in 1850 seeking to make their fortune in the sugar trade – a trade that's still going strong to this day. The town's main draw though is Scott Bay, rimmed by a great expanse of sand and offering a warm, sheltered ocean to bathe in. Further out, conditions are perfect for deep-sea diving, windsurfing and fishing. Scottburgh's location also puts you in reach of many other diverse attractions, from the wildlife of Tala Game Reserve to such infamous battlefields as Rourke's Drift – you certainly won't be short of places to explore from Scottburgh!
Discover the majestic hills and forests of Oribi Gorge, a 24 kilometre-long, 400 metre-deep canyon carved by the Mzimkhulwana Rive – the nature reserve is home to some 350 species of birds including crowned eagles, African broadbills and Cape vultures.
