Travel by coach from Folkestone to Cologne, via Eurotunnel or ferry, and embark MS Carmen. Cruise to Königswinter and moor for the night.
25/09/2020 Königswinter to Koblenz
Wake up in the pretty village of Königswinter and, after breakfast, join your included walk of approximately six kilometres. Walk from the ship through Konigswinter to the rack rail start for the Drachenfelsbahn. Continue walking up to the first stop of the train (Schloss Drachenburg) the oldest rack rail in Germany. Board the train which elevates at an incline of up to 20% and takes you to the top and the ruins of the 12th-century Drachenfels Castle. It’s famous as the fabled scene where Siegfried slayed the dragon and bathed in his bloodi n Wagner's Ring Cycle. On a clear day the views are spectacular. Admire the stunning views before walking back down the hill to your ship by a different route. Set sail at lunchtime for Koblenz, passing dramatic scenery, the small island of Nonnenwerth and the ruined castle of Rolandsbogen. Your ship will pause in Remagen where you'll be able to see the remains of the old Ludendorff railway bridge. Perhaps join an optional excursion through the Ahr Valley, or stay aboard the ship as she sails on to Koblenz. Excursion participants rejoin the ship in Koblenz.

Koblenz has a rich history spanning two millennia, and its past is reflected in a wealth of monuments and historic buildings. The city is situated at the exact point where the Rhine and Moselle meet, and the city's name means 'merging of the rivers'. Enjoy your included walk through the attractive wine town before taking the cable car to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Pause to take in the views before your local walking guide will take you on an attractive route back down to the ship – the walk is approximately four kilometres in total. Enjoy lunch on board and as the ship sets sail. Moor in Zell late tonight.
27/09/2020 Zell to Bernkastel-Kues
There'll be a short time to explore the picturesque wine town of Zell this morning, famous for its Schwarze Katz vineyard. The town's idyllic location on the Moselle encourages the vines to prosper. Mid-morning when the ship sets sail, you will board a coach for a short journey to Traben-Trarbach with it's beautiful setting on the Moselle. From here you join the Bernkasteler Weg and walk through the wooded forests to Bernkastel-Kues, one of the most beautiful small towns on the Moselle. The total distance will be approximately seven kilometres. A packed lunch will be provided today. Bernkastel-Kues features colourful Renaissance houses which line the sloping market square with its 17th-century fountain. There will be free time to explore the town at leisure as your ship remains moored here overnight.
28/09/2020 Bernkastel-Kues to Cochem to Koblenz
Early this morning, MS Carmen will leave Bernkastel-Kues, and sail to Cochem, arriving early afternoon. With the romantic backdrop of neo-Gothic Reichsburg Castle, Cochem is understandably one of the most visited places on the Moselle River. After lunch take a short coach trip to Moselkern from where you will take an approximately nine-kilometre walk to the medieval Burg Eltz castle up in the hills, in the heart of the forest. After viewing the exterior, take the short walk to the castle car park where your coach will collect you and return you to your ship in good time for dinner. Sail for Koblenz this evening.
29/09/2020 Koblenz to Rudesheim
This morning, cruise the most stunning stretch of the Rhine, passing Lorelei Rock and numerous castles. The rock is a symbol of the Rhine and inspired a famous poem by Heinrich Heine, which was set to music by Friedrich Silcher. Continue to Rüdesheim and after lunch join your local walking guide for a three-kilometre walking tour of the pretty wine town and beyond to the abbey associated with Hildegard von Bingen the composer, writer and philosopher from the 12th century. Remain moored here overnight.
30/09/2020 Rudesheim to Cologne
Enjoy a cruise back to to Cologne this morning and have lunch on-board before your local guide takes you on a walking tour of Cologne's old town and the exterior of the stunning cathedral.
You will then have the choice between continuing the tour to beautiful Rhine Park – which will make the walk approximately three kilometres – or enjoying free time in this attractive city before returning to your ship.
Remain moored here overnight.
