Day 1 UK to Cologne

Cologne

Travel by coach from Folkestone via Eurotunnel or ferry, to the port in Cologne where you will embark Rex Rheni.

Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board this evening as you remain moored here overnight.

Day 2 Cologne to Koblenz

Koblenz

Set sail before breakfast and cruise through the morning to Koblenz, which sits at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle where you have the option of joining a tour of the city and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.

Moor here overnight.

Day 3 Koblenz to Rüdesheim

Rudesheim

Depart at breakfast and sail through the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine to Rüdesheim, arriving early afternoon.

Enjoy the evening in this charming wine-making town, perhaps in the famed Drosselgasse with its old-fashioned taverns to sample a glass of local wine or beer. Alternatively optional excursions visit the eccentric Siegfried’s Museum of Mechanical Music or take in a tasting at a local winery this evening.

Remain moored here until the early hours.

Day 4 Rüdesheim to Speyer

Speyer

Enjoy another morning on the water as you cruise upstream to historic Speyer.

The town boasts one of Europe’s great Romanesque churches and has retained a reminder of its glorious past in buildings such as the 12th-century Jewish baths and the city gate. Remain moored here until late tonight before cruising overnight towards Strasbourg.

Day 5 Strasbourg

Strasbourg

You'll have a full day to explore this delightful French city – the capital of the Alsace region which was restored to France in 1919, after centuries of tug-of-war with Germany.

An optional city tour this morning will lead you past the charming half-timbered houses to the impressive Gothic cathedral and also features a canal cruise. This afternoon, take an included trip to the pretty town of Obernai, located at the foot of the Vosges mountains, in the heart of the Alsace vineyards. Your ship departs during dinner.

Day 6 Breisach

Breisach

Early this morning, arrive in Breisach set at the foot of the Kaiserstühl, or Emperor's Chair, hills named in honour of the Holy Roman Emperor Otto III.

While here you can enjoy an included excursion to the quaint village of Colmar and discover other delights of the Alsace region.

Set sail again mid-afternoon bound for Mannheim.

Day 7 Mannheim to Mainz

Mannheim

From Mannheim you can visit the old university city of Heidelberg on an optional excursion.

Your ship continues sailing to Mainz, where excursion participants rejoin her.

An overnight mooring here will give you plenty of time to discover the city's nightlife.

Day 8 Mainz to Boppard

Boppard

After a morning at leisure Rex Rheni departs from Mainz at lunchtime, cruising towards Boppard, a small picturesque town which boasts more than 2000 years of history and is located in the valley of the mythical Lorelei.

While here, you have the opportunity to stroll along the 19th-century promenade.

Day 9 Boppard to Bonn to Cologne

Cologne Cathedral

Cruise to arrive in Bonn at breakfast time, known as a 'Federal City' as it was the capital of West Germany before the country was reunified in 1990.

Bonn is also famous for Beethoven, who was born here 250 years ago this year. An optional guided city tour this morning includes a visit to his childhood home – now a museum dedicated to his life and work.

Cruise on to Cologne at lunchtime and spend this afternoon exploring – be sure to take the opportunity to visit one of Germany's most popular attractions, the vast Gothic cathedral – which supposedly houses the relics of the three Magi.

Day 10 Cologne to UK

Cologne

Disembark Rex Rheni and begin your return journey to the UK.
