Lyon

Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras to Lyon, via Lille. Transfer to the port and embark MS Mistral this afternoon. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner on board as you cruise towards Chalon-sur-Saône.

28/10/2019 Chalon-sur-Saône to Tournus

Chalon-sur-Saône

Your ship arrives at breakfast time and you have a full day to explore this historic town. Chalon-sur-Saône was an important trading post in Roman and medieval times. It has an attractive medieval quarter of half-timbered houses surrounding the church of St Vincent, which was a cathedral until 1790. The town is perhaps most famous as the birthplace of Nicéphore Niepce, one of the inventors of photography – perhaps find out more at the Nicéphore Niepce Museum.

Alternatively, you can join an optional excursion to Beaune and Burgundy. Your ship departs for Tournus early this evening, arriving a few hours later and mooring overnight.

29/10/2019 Tournus to Trevoux to Lyon

Tournus

Leave Tournus very early this morning for Macon. You’ll pause here to allow passengers to join an optional excursion to the Beaujolais vineyards, while the ship continues to Trevoux. Moor here while you enjoy lunch, then set off again for Lyon where excursion participants rejoin the ship in time for dinner. Cruise this evening and overnight towards Viviers.

30/10/2019 Viviers to Avignon

Avignon

Spend an hour before breakfast moored in Viviers to allow passengers to join an optional excursion to the Pont d’Arc Cavern. Excursion participants will rejoin the ship when it pauses briefly at Chateauneuf du Pape, before returning to Avignon mid-afternoon for an overnight mooring. Go exploring independently – don’t miss the photo opportunity at the remains of Avignon’s renowned 12th-century bridge.

Arles

Depart Avignon after breakfast and cruise to Arles, arriving at lunchtime. This afternoon, your included walking tour will reveal the UNESCO-listed Church of St Trophime and the 1st century AD Les Arènes amphitheatre which featured in a work by Vincent van Gogh. You may recognise other scenes painted by the artist on your way through Arles.

Enjoy a leisurely morning on board MS Mistral as you cruise to Martigues, arriving at lunchtime. This afternoon, an optional tour of Marseilles is available.

After breakfast, disembark MS Mistral and travel to Marseilles for your return Eurostar journey to the UK, via Lille.
