Amadeus Royal
Day 1 UK to Bucharest

Fly to Bucharest and transfer to a locally rated 4-star hotel in Bucharest, for an overnight stay with dinner included.
Day 2 Bucharest to Tulcea

This morning get ready to explore Bucharest, popular with the jet set and known as ‘Little Paris’ in the 1900s. Enjoy an included tour of the lively capital of Romania. See the enormous Palace of the Parliament – dictator Nicolae Ceausescu’s egotistical folly – and the Patriarchal Church, before lunch at a local restaurant. Later travel to Tulcea and embark Amadeus Royal for the beginning of your 22-night cruise to Amsterdam.
Day 3 Tulcea to Danube Delta

Set sail from Tulcea in the early hours and cruise through the stunning wetland biosphere of the Danube Delta.
Listed by UNESCO, the reserve has a diversity of habitats that attract over 300 species of birds and during the breeding-period you may see hundreds of pelicans plus heron, swan and wild duck. You might opt to depart the ship to join an optional tour of the wonderful surroundings at closer quarters.
Depart during lunch and sail to Braila.
Day 4 Braila
Spend the morning in Braila, an important trading port in the 19th century and home to some elegant merchants’ villas as a result. In the Old Town you’ll find some interesting churches and a theatre named after a famous Romanian actress. Perhaps take a tram ride – the electric tramline system established in the 19th century is still going strong! Enjoy a leisurely afternoon cruising along the Danube towards Rousse.
Day 5 Rousse to Svistov to Nikopol

Spend the morning in Rousse, the country’s biggest inland port and the site of the former base of the Roman Empire’s Danube fleet, and go exploring. Stroll around the historic city centre and see Freedom Square with its pretty fountains and grand monuments. This afternoon sail to Svistov, from where you may like to take an optional excursion to the ancient Bulgarian city of Veliko Tarnovo.
Cruise on to moor overnight in Nikopol.
Day 6 Nikopol

The town of Nikopol features the remains of a ruined fortress, a 13th century church and a drinking fountain constructed in the second century. Explore at your leisure or alternatively opt for an excursion to Pleven to visit an historic panorama depicting the events of the Russian-Turkish War of 1877. Set sail again after lunch.
Day 7 Cruising

Enjoy a day at leisure on board as you head towards Belgrade.
Day 8 Belgrade to Novi Sad

Spend the morning in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, exploring what is one of Europe's oldest cities with many monuments from different eras and cultures. Highlights include the National Museum, the parliament and St Sava Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in the world. Perhaps join an optional tour of the city which also visits the Kalemegdan Fortress. Depart for Novi Sad, which you can also see on an optional tour, after lunch.
Day 9 Mohács to Kalocsa

Explore this Hungarian port, where building boomed with the coming of the 19th-century steamboat traffic. Alternatively, you might like to join an optional excursion through the Hungarian lowlands or Puszta where you can enjoy a performance of traditional horsemanship. The ship continues to Kalocsa and pauses briefly for excursion participants to rejoin the ship.

Day 12 Bratislava to Vienna 🎧

This morning an included guided tour of Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, reveals the old town, Bratislava Castle, from where you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of the city, and the Gothic-style Cathedral. Eleven Kings of Hungary were crowned here while Turks occupied their own capital, Buda.
Relax on board this afternoon as you sail towards Vienna, arriving this evening, when you might opt to join an excursion to take-in a concert.
Day 13 Vienna to Dürnstein 🎧

Join an included sightseeing tour of Vienna's highlights, including the Ringstrasse and Opera House, this morning.
This afternoon, set sail for Dürnstein where you’ll moor overnight.
Day 14 Dürnstein to Melk 🎧

Explore medieval Dürnstein.
It’s one of the most picturesque towns on the Danube and also where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in Kuenringer Castle – now in ruins – in the late 12th century.
Later this morning depart for Melk, famous for its magnificent Benedictine Abbey, a baroque masterpiece. You might like to explore Melk Abbey on an optional guided tour.
Day 15 Passau 🎧

During lunch arrive in Passau, the most easterly city in Bavaria whose wealthy past is reflected in its fine buildings.
Located at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube rivers, it is often referred to as the ‘Venice of Bavaria’. The oldest part of the town stands on a narrow strip of land between the Inn and the Danube, with most of the main sights close to the Danube so it’s easy to explore independently. Alternatively, after lunch, you may like to take a short optional walking tour of Passau with a local guide.
Depart later this afternoon.
Day 16 Regensburg to Kelheim

Spend the morning in the lovely old town of Regensburg, set on the banks of the River Danube. See the twin spires of St Peter's Cathedral and its colourful stained-glass windows. An optional excursion visits Weltenburg Abbey, a masterpiece of German baroque architecture overlooking the Danube Gorge. Your ship pauses briefly in Kelheim for excursion participants to rejoin her.
Day 17 Nuremberg

Arrive in Nuremberg for an included sightseeing tour that reveals the elegant architecture and major sights of this historic Bavarian city, from its medieval beginnings to the present. Once famous for the manufacture of toys, it achieved infamy in the 20th century as the setting for the notorious Nazi rallies, and later for the war crimes trials of 1945-46.
Day 18 Bamberg 🎧

You'll have all day to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bamberg.
The city is built on seven hills just like Rome, one of which has a castle on top, another a monastery. The old town has three districts, one of which is on an island linked by a bridge on which the Altes Rathaus – the Old Town Hall – is located! Alternatively, you may prefer to join an optional walking tour or culinary-themed excursion.
Day 19 Wurzburg 🎧

An important city in the Middle Ages, Würzburg owes its present appearance to the prince-bishops of the Schönborn family, who commissioned many wonderful baroque buildings in the 17th and 18th centuries.
An optional city sightseeing tour this afternoon includes the impressive Residenz Palace, designed in the 18th century by Balthasar Neumann who developed his very own style of baroque architecture.
Depart Würzburg early evening.
Day 20 Miltenberg

Enjoy a leisurely morning on board as you cruise to Miltenberg.

Later this afternoon you'll arrive in ancient Koblenz, which is dominated by the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Day 22 Cologne 🎧

Arrive in Cologne in the early hours to explore some of its many and varied sites of interest.
