Day 1 UK to Amsterdam

Fly from the UK to Amsterdam and embark Amadeus Royal. Look forward to a welcome drink reception and dinner on board this evening. The ship will remain moored in Amsterdam overnight.
Day 2 Amsterdam 🎧

Amadeus Royal remains in Amsterdam for the morning giving you the opportunity to join an optional coach tour and canal cruise that highlights the vivid history of the city. You sail from Amsterdam around midday and cruise south along the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal, through the flat polder landscape – reclaimed land – of South Holland, reaching the Rhine overnight en route for Cologne.
Day 3 Cologne 🎧

Spend the early morning cruising south, arriving in Cologne with the afternoon to explore. Perhaps visit the mighty Gothic cathedral, one of Germany's most visited landmarks. Sail from Cologne later this evening and continue south along the Rhine to Koblenz obernight.
Day 4 Koblenz to Rüdesheim 🎧

You have a couple of hours in Koblenz to discover the charming old town and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Depart for Rüdesheim along what is probably the most famous and scenic stretch of the Rhine Valley. You will pass the pretty town of Boppard, the ‘Enemy Brothers’ castles, the ruined fortress of Rheinfels, and wine town of St Goar. Have your camera ready as you round the 132-metre Lorelei Rock, the inspiration for a famous poem about a siren said to have lured sailors on to the rocks to drown. Later you’ll pass Pfalz bei Kaub, a fortress and toll house on an island in the river. Arrive in Rüdesheim, with its charming old town, for the evening. Perhaps go ashore to the atmospheric Drosselgasse, a narrow street lined with taverns, for a glass of local wine or beer. You could even join an optional guided tour of a local winery or alternatively visit an eccentric museum packed with self-playing musical instruments.
Your ship departs again later this evening.
Day 5 Miltenberg

Enjoy a leisurely morning on board as you cruise to Miltenberg, arriving this afternoon. Explore this ancient town which includes a 13th-century castle, timber-framed houses and old wine taverns. Perhaps enjoy a flagon of ale at an inn or chart the town's history with a visit to the local museum. You leave here this evening and spend the night cruising through the thickly wooded region of Baden-Württemberg.
Day 6 Würzburg 🎧

Around lunchtime you’ll arrive in the historic city of Würzburg, an important city in the Middle Ages.
Now though its charm is due to the prince-bishops of the Schönborn family, who commissioned many wonderful baroque buildings in the 17th and 18th centuries. The highlight is the impressive Residenz Palace, designed in the 18th century by Balthasar Neumann who developed and refined his very own style of baroque architecture.
Perhaps join an optional excursion to view it up close. Amadeus Royal sails from Würzburg early this evening.
Day 7 Bamberg 🎧

Today you pass from the Main into the Main-Danube Canal. Completed in 1992, this vast civil engineering project includes no fewer than 16 locks.
Arrive in Bamberg after lunch with the afternoon to explore the old town and perhaps join a culinary-themed excursion or an optional walking tour of the Old Quarter and visit the imperial cathedral.
Depart again this evening and cruise towards Nuremberg.
Day 8 Nuremberg 🎧

Arrive in Nuremberg early this morning.
An included sightseeing tour reveals the elegant architecture and major sights of this historic Bavarian city, from its medieval beginnings to the present. Once famous for the manufacture of toys, it achieved infamy in the 20th century as the setting for the notorious Nazi rallies, and later for the war crimes trials of 1945-46.
You sail from Nuremberg late afternoon and continue towards Regensburg.
Day 9 Kelheim to Regensburg 🎧

Amadeus Royal will pause briefly in Kelheim to allow passengers to disembark for an optional excursion to Weltenburg Abbey, a masterpiece of German baroque architecture overlooking the Danube Gorge.
Alternatively, remain aboard the ship as she continues to Regensburg, and enjoy the afternoon exploring the lovely old town on an optional walking tour. Excursion participants will rejoin the ship in Regensburg.
Set off again this evening for Passau.
Day 10 Passau 🎧

This morning you’ll arrive in Passau, the most easterly city in Bavaria whose wealthy past is reflected in its fine buildings.
Located at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube rivers, it is often referred to as the ‘Venice of Bavaria’. The oldest part of the town stands on a narrow strip of land between the Inn and the Danube, with most of the main sights close to the Danube so it’s easy to explore independently. Alternatively, take a short optional walking tour with a local guide. Alternatively you may wish to join a full-day optional excursion to Salzburg in Austria.
Amadeus Royal leaves Passau early this evening and crosses the border into Austria too.
Day 11 Melk to Dürnstein 🎧

Spend the morning exploring Melk, famous for its magnificent Benedictine Abbey, a baroque masterpiece which you can visit on an optional excursion.
Cruise to medieval Dürnstein, arriving in the afternoon. It’s one of the most picturesque towns on the Danube and also where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in Kuenringer Castle – now in ruins – in the late 12th century.
Depart late this evening and cruise overnight towards Vienna.
Day 12 Vienna 🎧

Having arrived in the early hours, you get to spend a full day in Vienna.
This morning you can join an included sightseeing tour of the highlights, including the Ringstrasse and Opera House, or perhaps opt to join an optional culinary-themed walking tour. After lunch, you may like to go exploring the capital of Austria independently, or join an optional excursion to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace.
You also have the option to attend a concert on an excursion this evening before setting sail again late tonight.
Day 13 Bratislava to Budapest 🎧

Amadeus Royal arrives early this morning in the Slovakian capital, Bratislava.
On an included guided tour you'll see the old town, Gothic-style Cathedral and Bratislava Castle, from where you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of the city.
Depart early this afternoon and cruise towards Budapest.
Day 14 Budapest 🎧

This morning you can join an included city sightseeing tour of the Hungarian capital, comprising Buda and Pest, built on opposite banks of the Danube.
Discover cobbled streets, medieval architecture, wide avenues and impressive 19th-century public buildings, plus the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Buda Castle. You might prefer to join an optional culinary-themed tour of the city to enjoy a unique experience. This afternoon you can explore further independently or join one of two optional excursions to the Lazar equestrian park or Gödöllo Palace.
Amadeus Royal remains moored here overnight.
Day 15 Budapest 🎧

Enjoy a further day here in the capital and perhaps enjoy a coffee, local beer or wine while people-watching in one of the many welcoming cafes or bars.
You set sail this evening, cruising towards Mohács.
Day 16 Mohács

Arrive early with a full day to explore this Hungarian port, where building boomed with the coming of 19th-century steamboat traffic. Nearby is the scene of a battle that left Hungary under Turkish rule for 150 years. Alternatively you might like to join a full-day excursion uncovering the Hungarian way of life and showcasing the skills of its horsemen. Amadeus Royal sails from Mohács later this evening and cruises south from Hungary into the former Yugoslavia, where the Danube now forms the border between Croatia on the west and Serbia on the east.
Day 17 Novi Sad to Belgrade 🎧

Moor in Novi Sad early this morning and go exploring Serbia’s second largest city, either independently or on an optional excursion.
This afternoon Amadeus Royal continues to the Serbian capital, Belgrade. Built at the junction of the Danube and Sava rivers, it has been much fought over during its 2,000-year-history.
Arrive early this evening and moor overnight.
Day 18 Belgrade 🎧

You have a full day to explore Belgrade, one of the oldest European cities, with a large number of monuments from different eras and cultures.
Highlights include the National Museum, the parliament and St Sava Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in the world. Perhaps join an optional city tour which also visits the Kalemegdan Fortress this morning while an optional excursion this afternoon visits the Royal Palace and Tito Memorial.
Sail from Belgrade early this evening.
Day 19 The Iron Gates

This morning, cruise along a particularly scenic stretch of the Danube to the ‘Iron Gates’, a narrow gorge with high cliffs on either side. Your cruise continues overnight towards Bulgaria and Romania.
Day 20 Svistov to Rousse 🎧

This morning moor briefly in the small Bulgarian town of Svistov, from where passengers can opt to join a full-day excursion to Veliko Tarnovo.
Your ship will continue cruising to Rousse, the country’s biggest inland port and the site of the former base of the Roman Empire’s Danube fleet, where you can go exploring this afternoon. Stroll around the historic city centre and see Freedom Square with its pretty fountains and grand monuments.
Excursion participants will rejoin the ship here before setting sail again this evening.
Day 21 Tulcea

Arrive this afternoon in this Romanian city where the Danube empties into the Black Sea. Perhaps visit the Danube Delta Natural History Museum in preparation for your cruise there tomorrow.
Day 22 Tulcea to Danube Delta to Tulcea

Depart Tulcea in the early hours and cruise through the stunning wetland biosphere of the Danube Delta. Listed by UNESCO, the reserve has a diversity of habitats that attracts over 300 species of birds and during the breeding-period you may see hundreds of pelicans plus heron, swan and wild duck.
Day 23 Tulcea to Bucharest

Depart Tulcea for Bucharest, the capital of Romania, often called the 'Paris of the East' due to its tree-lined boulevards, fine buildings and triumphal arch.
After lunch en route, enjoy an included sightseeing tour before you transfer to the locally rated 4-star Novotel Bucharest (4Q) for an overnight stay with dinner included.
Day 24 Bucharest to UK

After breakfast travel to Bucharest airport for your return flight to the UK.
