Day 1 UK to Vienna


Fly to Vienna for a three-night stay at the 4-star Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier in the south-east part of central Vienna, or a similar hotel. Your stay is on a half-board basis, with one dinner at a local restaurant and two dinners at the hotel.

Day 2 Vienna 🎧


Enjoy an included half-day tour of Vienna, the legendary city of the Hapsburgs for 600 hundred years. Your tour includes a drive around the Ringstrasse, a wide avenue encircling the old city, taking in all its historic buildings, including the magnificent State Opera House. Tonight, enjoy a meal at the atmospheric Augustinerkeller restaurant, which is located in one of the last monastery cellars of Vienna’s Old Town.

Day 3 Vienna 🎧


Enjoy a day at leisure in Vienna, or join an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace. This evening, after dinner on board, take in an included concert. You’ll travel to the baroque Palais Auersperg or one of Vienna’s other impressive palaces near the Ringstrasse, for a concert featuring music by Mozart and the Strauss family.

The sumptuous Imperial Summer Palace of the Hapsburgs was the centre of royal life in the 18th century. Leopold I commissioned Fischer von Erlach to create it in 1695, after being inspired by the glories of Versailles. It lies in beautiful formal gardens and parkland and the lavish interiors are adorned with priceless treasures. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is bursting with fine examples of the decorative arts. Discover riches such as the Millions Room – panelled in rosewood with Persian miniature watercolours – and the Hall of Mirrors where Mozart played a recital for Maria Theresa. Stroll through the grounds with their vast flowerbeds and perhaps visit the Coach and Carriage Museum. Walking Grade 3

Day 4 Vienna to Dürnstein 🎧


Spend a final morning at leisure in Vienna before embarking Amadeus Royal later this afternoon. Begin your cruise along the Danube to Dürnstein as you enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board tonight.

Day 5 Dürnstein to Melk 🎧


Spend part of the morning in Dürnstein, set in the beautiful Wachau valley beneath the ruined Kuenringer Castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned during the late 12th century.

Set sail to Melk where you'll have the opportunity to visit its Benedictine Abbey. Depart Melk during dinner and cruise through the night to Passau.

Optional excursions

Set in a beautiful position on a promontory overlooking the Danube River, the wonderfully ornate Melk Abbey is a masterpiece of high baroque architecture. Formerly the site of a castle given to Benedictine monks by Leopold III von Babenberg in the 11th century, work on the present monastery began in 1702 to the plans of Jakob Prandtauer. The exterior is an imposing and majestic sight with symmetrical towers and a large octagonal dome, while the interior is lavishly decorated and contains innumerable artistic treasures. After visiting the abbey you can enjoy some free time in the beautiful garden, before returning to the ship. Walking Grade 3

Day 6 Passau 🎧


Arrive in Passau later this morning.

Enjoy the afternoon exploring the 'Venice of Bavaria', set at the meeting point of three rivers – the Danube, Inn and Ilz, and surrounded by wooded hills. Or, to make the most of your visit why not join an optional city walk and hear the history of this attractive town?

Amadeus Royal departs late tonight.

Also known as the ‘Venice of Bavaria’, Passau is set in the beautiful location at the meeting point of three rivers – the Danube, Inn and Ilz. The surrounding hills create a picture-postcard backdrop to the city’s towers, spires and red-roofed houses. A historic city full of culture, Passau’s wealthy past is reflected in its many fine buildings, including the magnificent baroque St Stephen’s Cathedral as well as the old and new Bishop’s Palaces. Enjoy a walking tour through the charming streets to the banks of the Danube and riverside promenades, following on to Cathedral Square dominated by St Stephen’s Cathedral with its distinctive three towers. Maybe you'll get lucky and hear Europes largest church organ which is housed in this great place of worship. Walking Grade 3

Day 7 Linz 🎧


Enjoy the morning exploring Linz independently. 

Your ship departs during lunch and cruises overnight towards Bratislava.

Optional excursions

Stroll into the old city to see the site of Linz’ first synagogue. Pass Mozart House where he composed his Linz Symphony and Linz Sonata, but now home to the State Administration. View the Trinity Column commemorating those who died in plague epidemics, and the baroque Old Cathedral, the Church of Ignatius, in the main square. Afterwards, enjoy some free time – perhaps pause for coffee and a slice of Linzer torte.

Day 8 Bratislava 🎧


This morning you arrive in Slovakia's capital, Bratislava.

Spend an enjoyable day exploring the city’s old quarter, overlooked by the massive rectangular castle, and admiring the attractive Hapsburg architecture, independently or on an optional morning city tour. Stroll through ancient cobbled streets to Bratislava Castle for a bird’s-eye view of the city. See the Gothic-style Cathedral, where eleven Kings of Hungary were crowned while Turks occupied their own capital.

Optional excursions

Step aboard the miniature Bratislava City Train to explore the many highlights of this historic city. You’ll pass the 18th-century Slovak Philharmonic Hall and impressive National Theatre before your train slowly makes its way around the Old Town, arriving at Bratislava Castle, with its commanding hill-top setting, to admire magnificent views across the city. The train will then continue through Leopold Gate, back to the Old Town where you’ll disembark for a walking tour. A stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets will reveal sights such as the Archbishop’s Palace, St Martin’s Cathedral, the charming Main Square with its fountain and Old Town Hall, and a number of 18th-century palaces. Bratislava Slovakia Europe

Day 9 Bratislava to Esztergom to Budapest 🎧


Your ship departs in the early hours, arriving in Esztergom before breakfast.

It is perhaps the most beautiful of the small towns on the Danube Bend, and home to Hungary's largest basilica, the dome of which can be seen for miles. Perhaps explore here and the artistic community of Szentendre on an optional excursion.

Depart at lunchtime and cruise to Budapest, arriving early this evening.

Begin your trip with a guided tour of the historic city of Esztergom, seat of the Archbishop and former residence of the Hungarian kings. It’s the site of many splendid buildings, crowning them is the vast domed basilica. The largest cathedral in Hungary, it houses many beautiful frescos, sparkling ecclesiastic treasures and an elaborate red marble chapel. Later visit the charming artists’ village of Szentendre, where the cobbled streets brim with fine galleries and museums – including one dedicated to Hungary’s celebrated ceramics artist, Margit Kovács. Occasionally this tour operates in reverse. Walking Grade 3

Day 10 Budapest 🎧


Your ship remains moored in Budapest for a full day and overnight stay.

This cosmopolitan city is divided by the Danube into Buda and Pest. An included city tour reveals some of the city's highlights, from the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Buda Castle that sits above the river on the west bank, to the impressive Hungarian Parliament buildings in Pest on the east bank.

Day 11 Budapest to UK


Disembark your ship and travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
