Explore the finest coastal cities of Croatia and more…
Enjoy a spectacular quintet of stunning destinations along the Adriatic coast, each filled with epic history, UNESCO-listed attractions and gorgeous scenery.
Each and every port of call on this epic summertime cruise is a treasure trove of ancient and medieval history, beginning and ending with ports founded by the Phoenicians. The Adriatic is bordered by countries whose culture, language, food and art has been blended and shaped through centuries-old trade routes and relentless conquests. From Malta to Italy via the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, this incredible region encompassing much-loved cities and little-known gems is bursting with fascinating history and time-defying legends.
A new port of call for Saga cruises, Ravenna enchants visitors with its delightful terracotta brick churches embellished with heart-rendingly beautiful mosaics. The city is also home to eight UNESCO-listed monuments, including the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, whose star-studded interior inspired composer Cole Porter to write the famous song Night and Day. Zadar is another port that’s often undetected by the tourist radar. However, this intriguing city is sure to wow you with its historic old town of Roman ruins and medieval churches. It has two very unique attractions: The light show of the Sun Salutation and a Sea Organ, set within stone steps leading into the water. Designed by the same local architect, Nikola Basic, both unusual installations need to be seen and heard to be believed.

During the fifth and sixth centuries, under the Goths and Byzantines, Ravenna enjoyed a golden period when numerous monuments and buildings were erected.
The city, which is especially famous for its superb mosaics, is also home to eight UNESCO-listed early Christian monuments, including the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, which sits in the courtyard of the 6th-century Basilica of San Vitale. Don’t be deceived by the mausoleum’s outwardly plain exterior as it hides a beautiful interior decorated with golden light-reflecting mosaics.

Zadar's street layout originated in the Roman times and you can still see the Roman sea gate and ancient city walls. Keep an eye out for the old churches of St Simeon and St Chrysogonus, and the Permanent Exhibition of Religious Art, popularly known as ‘The Gold and Silver of Zadar’, which can be seen in the Benedictine convent of St Mary’s.
One of Zadar’s most unusual attractions is undoubtedly its Sea Organ, which is set within perforated stone steps that lead into the sea. Designed by a local architect, the organ consists of a system of pipes and whistles that exude wistful sighs when the movement of the sea pushes air through them. You may like to descend the steps into the sea for swim, while enjoying the magical sounds of the organ.

19/08/2022 Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik, Croatia

Discover the varied and colourful history of this magical city on an included sightseeing tour, then walk along the famous old streets and see sights such as St Blaise’s Church, the Onophrian Fountains and Sponza Palace. For incredible views over the city, climb the steps of the city walls for a walk around the top.
