Set beside the River Seine, this charming French city is a medieval gem, whose magnificent Gothic cathedral provided inspiration to the impressionist painter Claude Monet. It’s also the city where Joan of Arc was tried and burnt at the stake. Explore the old town with its timbered early buildings, and wealth of museums including the Joan of Arc History Museum, wander the cobbled streets or take time out in a street cafe.

The pretty town of Honfleur lies beside the mouth of the Seine where it flows into the Channel. Explore the picturesque old harbour – the Vieux Bassin – with its tall narrow buildings, as well as the cobbled streets and alleys. Within the town you’ll also find St Catherine’s Church – one of the largest wooden churches in France, and the Satie Museum dedicated to the composer. Honfleur also served as inspiration for many painters including Boudin, Monet and Dufy.

Former residence of Flemish painter, Peter Paul Rubens, Antwerp's Royal Museum of Fine Arts is partly dedicated to his work and you'll also find his altarpieces in the medieval Cathedral of Our Lady, which has the highest church tower in Benelux at 403 feet.
