Its fine natural harbour has seen it play an important role in naval history as a base was established here in the 20th century but nowadays it’s a popular gateway from which to explore the Scottish Highlands. Perhaps explore the incredible scenery that forms a stunning backdrop to the romantic castles and historic battlefields, tour the Glenmorangie Distillery or gaze out across the opaque waters of Loch Ness and ponder its legendary monster!

St Peter Port with its narrow, cobbled streets, pretty harbour and quays, is the capital of the Channel Island of Guernsey. Within the town lies the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery where you can learn about the history of the island, and Hautevile House – the preserved home of poet and novelist Victor Hugo. Watching over the town is Castle Cornet, the ancient fortress that guards the harbour and is home to five museums and period gardens.
