Livorno

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

29th December, 2016

Another spectacular sunrise as we dock in Livorno, the gateway to Tuscany. We were the only cruise ship in port today and were again blessed with clear skies and sunshine.

With 5 tours on offer our guests were spoilt for choice; Roman & Medieval Lucca, Transfer to Pisa & Florence, A Taste of Tuscany, Florence for the Free Spirited and Easy Peasy Pisa. I was at the gangway when many of the tours returned and the feedback was excellent –“chilly”they said but a great tour. I was particularly interested to hear how impressed Guests were with the tour to Lucca, which is somewhere I have not been, however after their comments I will definitely get myself on the tour next time. Lucca is considered one of the most picturesque towns in Tuscany with the oval Piazza Anfiteatro the centre point and standing on the site of the original Roman Amphitheatre.

I have attached a photo of Pisa, and Florence taken by Victoria our Photo Manager –this should whet your appetite!!!

On board the Bridge team had a visit from Navimeteo, a new Marine Weather Service based in Italy that we are going to trial over the next 3 months. The President and Founder with his Manager attended and we had a very informative and productive meeting to fully understand the services they offer. With high accuracy forecasts both for ports and sea passages, along with weather routing, it will be a very interesting 3 months. I like the fact the service is available 24 hours a day either by phone, e-mail or through their website. Attached is a photo from their visit and we even got some complimentary caps!!
