Bergen 17th July
After a calm sea day, and a beautiful and scenic sail in from the southern Pilot Station, under the bridges we arrived in Bergen on time and in calm conditions with NO RAIN! Bergen, as regular cruisers know is the wettest place in Europe with over 270 days of rain per year. We started with clouds around the hills but this quickly cleared up into a calm, dry and warm day.
All the tours left on time and from reports, and speaking to people, everybody enjoyed their day in Bergen.
We departed from Bergen at 1700 for another scenic sail out and Sailaway concert on the Veranda by the Pasadena Roof Orchestra.
Alesund 18th July
Alesund is a short sail in, but due to 2 other cruise ships berthing at the same time we have a very slow berthing as there are not enough linesmen to service 3 ships and we had to wait for ours to finish with one of the other ships. However we were finished in time for the tours to depart as programmed.
Another calm and warm sunny day with the scenic back drop of Alesund.
When we sailed from Alesund we had negotiated with Geiranger and the Pilots for us to sail direct to the Anchorage in Geiranger.
This meant that during the evening we were sailing up Geiranger fjord in all its beauty. We arrived in Geiranger and anchored around 2200.
Geiranger 19th July
Everything was prepared for tendering at around 0730 and tendering started promptly at 0800.The day started fine, but some rain came in for a couple of hours in the morning but cleared up after lunch and the rest of the day was calm and sunny with spectacular views of the Fjord.
We heaved in the anchors at 1700 and then had another spectacular sail out down the fjord during the evening, passing the 7 sisters waterfall shortly after leaving. Due to most of the winter snow and ice already having melted the waterfall was not at its most spectacular, but still worth photographing.
The sail back to Dover took 2 days, with some rain and fog and a short blow of force 8 from the East to liven things up on the first day.
The second day was fine and sunny.
