2nd March, 2018
Here we were again in Portsmouth. What a wonderful cruise our last one was, with great northern lights viewings and great ports. We left Kalvag at full speed ahead to get ahead of the snow storms and the strong winds forecast for the 1st March in Portsmouth, so we actually docked late evening on the 28th Feb. This proved to be a wise decision and our disembarking guests appreciated the quiet night alongside before going home the next day. Gave them time to digest Captain Nick’s Fish and Chips they’d had at lunchtime!!!
The following morning, 1st March, it was time to carry out our normal turnaround procedures. Many stores to load ready for our Northern Lights cruise until we return to Portsmouth on the 17th March. Windy conditions combined with snow did not put off our guests coming to the ship, and eagerly looking forward to heading north. My team this cruise are Staff Captain Simon, Chief Engineer Mark, Hotel Director Dawn and Cruise Director Simon.
We conducted our Passenger Emergency drill at 4pm and then, after looking at the weather in the North Sea, decided to sail at 6am on the 2nd March and go full speed to Bergen. This way we will hopefully miss the worst of the wind in the lower part of the North Sea/Dover Strait/English Channel.
Fingers crossed. I’m looking forward to another great cruise!!!!!
