Reykjavik

Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

21st July, 2018

Today looks to be a great day for Iceland and here we are in the nation’s capital. We embarked our pilot this morning at 6:30am and we proceeded to the inner harbour, which is right next door to the central downtown area. We had to do an interesting manoeuvre to get in, using the tug at the stern and then we backed up to the berth going port side alongside. The pilot was commenting that today was going to be the first day of summer here in Iceland, general rule of thumb is good weather UK, not so good weather Iceland as the jet stream tends to go north above the high pressure.

Many guests very keen to get ashore to explore and the crew were also taking a stroll ashore (including me). I really like the character of Reykjavik and always enjoy going for a walk, especially up to the cathedral area. Tours proving popular today with trips to the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, Krysuvik & city centre and the Whale watching tours of course!

I had a very nice walk around, with no rain, which is always a bonus, took some nice photos for your viewing pleasure.

5pm and time to leave Iceland and head south, we have made all our Iceland ports this cruise which is very good and many happy guests onboard. Two seadays to come with loads of activities planned and then Londonderry/Derry on Tuesday 23rd July. This cruise is going by so quick!
