Aviles

Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

26th April, 2018

This morning Saga Pearl II arrived in our final port of this cruise, Aviles. Although the weather was cloudy, it was dry with a high of 16 degrees.  As you will be aware, I took over Command because Captain Kim Tanner is attending his best friend’s wedding in Ireland.

Today there were tours around Aviles, to Historic Oviedo, and to Gijon for the cider tasting, where our guests were shown how to pour the cider in the correct way.

The Shorex team arranged an exciting trip for the crew to the Fernando Alonso F1 Kart Circuit. This was extremely well received by those who went. There are a number of very competitive people amongst the crew! The final race was won by the 3rd officer Alex, second was 3rd Engineer Cameron, and third was Saxophonist Oliver.

On departure the weather forecast for the Bay of Biscay for the run back to Portsmouth was not very good, with a storm heading in from the West. We set off at full speed and were able to make good time crossing the Bay so just managed to get ahead of the worst of the weather, much to the relief of all on board.
