Along with Thimphu and Paro, Punakha is one of Bhutan’s three most important sites collectively known as the ‘golden triangle’.
Today you travel to this region with a stop at Dochula Pass to admire the views and the colourful prayer flags. Punakha is the former capital of the kingdom at the confluence of two rivers.
After an included lunch, visit the ornate Punakha Dzong, which is the centre of administration for the district. Stay two nights at the Damchen Resort (2Q) or Punatsangchhu Cottages (2Q).
