Sitting on its hill 100 metres above the Moselle, Cochem Castle, owned by the town of Cochem since 1978, contains many fine examples of Renaissance and Baroque furniture collected by the Ravené family who restored the castle in the 19th-century.

One of Germany’s oldest cities, Cologne, the cultural centre of the Rhineland, has over 30 museums, hundreds of galleries, and a magnificent Gothic cathedral with huge twin spires, that was, from 1880-1884, the world’s tallest building.

Known as ‘the Romantic Rhine’, the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its beautiful and quaint villages and more than 40 castles and fortresses from the Middle Ages.  

The picturesque town of Zell, a working wine-town with its famous Schwarze Katze (black cat) vineyards, is a place where you can truly savour the character of the Moselle region and its people.  

The Rhine gorge, with its own microclimate, and its steep slopes have long been terraced for agriculture and viticulture, its vineyards growing mainly white wine grapes, Riesling being the most grown variety.
