  • Cruise the Venice lagoon
En route to Polesella you'll pass islands including San Michelle – Venice's cemetery where the likes of Diaghilhev, Stravinsky and Ezra Pound are buried – and Sant' Erasmo, known as the Garden of Venice and home to vineyards where the wine Orto is produced.
  • UNESCO protected Verona and Ferrara
Verona is home to many Roman remains and a wealth of beautiful medieval buildings, such as the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore in whose crypt Romeo and Juliet are said to have married. Visit the walled city of Ferrara and look out for the Castello Estense, that dates back to 1385, with its battlements, corner towers and frescoed interiors.
  • Explore the lovely port of Chioggia
Chioggia, with its beautiful old town apparently floating on a network of canals, is often called 'Venice in miniature'. The area has a thriving fishing industry, look out for the flat-bottomed boats, or 'bragazzo', that fish the shallow lagoon waters. These carry distinctive painted sails decorated with heraldic, religious or family emblems.
  • Visit Mantua, Northern Italy's cultural heart
The stunning grandeur of Mantua's medieval and Renaissance architecture owes much to the Gonzaga dynasty. Some of the most famous artists of the day undertook commissions here including Donatello, Rubens, Pisanello and Fetti.
  • Venice the 'floating city'
Stroll around the world-famous floating city of Venice. Admire the highly decorative St Mark's Basilica at the Piazza San Marco and visit the pink marble Doges Palace with its magnificent facade. Perhaps take a gondola along the canals, and survey the glorious architecture and many distinctive bridges. You'll also visit the famous lagoon islands of Murano and Burano.
