L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland
L'Anse aux Meadows is a National Historic Site, as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This archaeological site is on the tip of Newfoundland and was only discovered in 1960. Archaeologists have excavated the area and its last settlement dates back to approximately 1,000 years before.
Today, it's the only authenticated Norse site in North America. Visitors to L'Anse aux Meadows can help to spin yarn, learn to throw an axe or take a look on-board the Snorri, which is a replica of the first ship that arrived in the area from Greenland.
