Preparing for your Classic cruise
Tickets and travel documents
Your tickets and travel documents will be sent to you approximately 21 days before your departure. Please check them carefully and contact us if there is anything you are unsure about.
We suggest you take a photocopy of all your documents and keep them in a safe and separate place. Be sure to bring your tickets, passport, traveller’s cheques and credit cards in your hand luggage on the day you travel, plus any medication you may require.
Luggage labels for your homeward journey will be issued on board.
Passports and visas
A current 10-year passport, valid for six months after your cruise, is required for all British citizens resident in the UK.
If you need a new passport you can obtain an application form from any Post Office. Please leave plenty of time to obtain your new passport as it can take several weeks to process.
If you are a British citizen resident in the UK, Saga will obtain any necessary visas for you, free of charge wherever possible unless an extra charge is imposed by a government.
For further information about passports and visas, call us FREE on 0800 525 290 between 9.30am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays. If you are outside the UK call us on +44 1303 771111. Charges will apply.
Vaccinations
Health facilities, hygiene and disease risks vary worldwide. We will advise you with your holiday confirmation of any vaccinations that are required as a condition of entry to the country(ies) that you are visiting.
Please note that health information is constantly changing so your doctor will be able to advise you about your specific needs, including vaccinations, and we recommend that you consult your doctor at least 12 weeks before departure. There are also specialist vaccination centres.
Further travel health advice can be found on www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk With your travel documents we will send you ‘Saga’s Guide to Comfortable Air Travel’.
Clothing
Pack comfortable, casual clothes for the daytime, bearing in mind the time of year you are travelling and the climate of your destination.
If you are cruising to Scandinavia, Iceland, the Baltic or the North Cape, you should take warm clothes and an overcoat but if you are travelling to the Mediterranean or the tropics, light cotton clothes are best. The secret of success is to dress in layers.
We also recommend flat, sturdy shoes, a light waterproof jacket for shore excursions and rubber-soled shoes for deck games. Sunglasses, sunscreen and a sun hat are also essential.
You should also bear in mind that in some countries you may be required to cover up when visiting religious sites and monuments, and that shorts, sleeveless tops and swimwear are not appropriate.
Evenings aboard Saga Ruby and Saga Sapphire have a dress code, as explained in the Life on Board leaflet sent out to all customers with their booking confirmation.
