Adventure Cruising explained

Quest for Adventure

We’ve travelled far and wide to seek out fascinating attractions and experiences, but it’s not just our excursions that will help you get the most from your time in port.

Our expert guest speakers will add colour to the destinations with their engaging and entertaining lectures, and our chefs love to bring you a little of the local flavour to every meal.

Tailor-made excursions

On every Adventure Cruise, selected tailor-made excursions are included in the price in up to five ports.

Whether you join one of the included excursions, join an optional tour or prefer to explore independently, the choice is yours.

Our excursions have been designed to give you a real flavour of a place and will often include experiences you’d find hard to organise yourself such as a river cruise through the mangrove forests of Central America.

Sometimes you may simply want to take the complimentary shuttle bus into town (available wherever possible, when the ship berths more than 500 yards from the town centre), or you may be tempted to explore a little further afield. Bicycles are available to borrow from the ships at no extra charge, so you can explore independently if you wish.

Get to the heart of your destination

Quest for Adventure can reach ports that are often inaccessible to larger ships – places such as the remote Solovetsky Islands in Russia’s White Sea and Seydisfjordur, one of the most picturesque villages in Iceland.

The size of our ship also means we’re able to berth in the heart of many towns and cities so you can start exploring straight away. Best of all, with fewer people on board you won’t have to wait long to get off the ship and begin exploring.

Relaxing days at sea

Just because you’re visiting adventurous destinations doesn’t mean you have to compromise on comfort. Quest for Adventure offers elegant and comfortable surroundings, coupled with a relaxed, informal atmosphere which makes it easy to meet people. During your days at sea there’ll be plenty going on, such as watercolour painting classes, digital photography lessons, wine-tasting sessions and lectures by guest speakers.

Specially selected for both their expertise and passion, they are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and include diplomats, writers, academics, scientists and politicians. Or you may simply prefer to find a quiet corner where you can enjoy a good book.

A little local flavour

Even when you’re at sea you’ll still get a taste of the destination, as our chefs and their teams work hard to create imaginative menus that reflect the regional cuisine, using ingredients sourced at local markets. When the sun sets you can look forward to entertainment that often has a local twist too, as we invite performers on board from the ports we are in.

Alternatively you might just want to relax in the library, perhaps watch a film screening under the stars, or simply unwind with a book or a DVD in the comfort of your cabin.

Extend your adventure and see even more

Hotel stays: We offer great value hotel stays before and after many of our cruises, so you can spend more time in a particular region, town or city or perhaps explore further afield. Our extensions offer a good degree of flexibility and you are often able to choose how many nights you would like to stay.

For more details about our inspirational choice of holiday extensions, please call our Travel Consultants.

An important note on physical fitness:  Our excursions usually involve a walk of at least half a mile and can include steep ascents and descents. A certain degree of physical fitness is therefore required to fully participate in the included and optional tours offered on Quest for Adventure cruises. If you have mobility difficulties and are uncertain as to whether these cruises are right for you, our Travel Consultants will be happy to offer you advice.
