All are highly-respected experts in their field and will offer insights into the places you visit, enhancing your learning experience with their own stories, knowledge and research.

These friendly and enjoyable talks cover a broad range of topics and are designed to appeal to both beginners and experts.

 

Dr Simon Boxall - Oceanographer

A lecturer at the National Oceanography Centre at Southampton University, Dr Simon Boxallis a leading commentator on climate change and regularly contributed to radio, TV documentaries and current affairs programmes.

Dr Peter Cattermole - Geologist and vulcanologist

Dr Peter Carrermole has lectured on planetary geology and vulcanology at the universities of Sheffield and Wales, worked with NASA on the volcanoes of Mars and travelled widely among the world's volcanic regions. He has a life-long interest in observational astronomy, having appeared regularly on BBC4's Sky at Night with Patrick Moore.

Professor David Drewry - Geophysicist

Prefoessor David Drewry is a Vice-President of the European University Association and a Trustee of the Natural History Museum. He holds a doctorate on Geophysics from Cambridge University and has wilde research interests in environmenttal sciences and global climate change. He has participated in and led scientific expeditions to the polar regions and southern Africa and has travelled extensively in both Australasia and the Pacific.

Peter Holden MBE - Ornithologist and wildlife expert

In his work with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Peter Holden was responsible for the 'Big Garden Birdwatch'. He has also been advisor to the BBC's Blue Peter and during the 1990s he joined Bill Oddie to present 'Bird in the Nest'. He has written several wildlife guides and was awarded an MBE for his services to Nature Conservation in 2009.

Stephen Marsh - Naturalist

Stephen Marsh has had a life-long passion for wildlife. A keen birder from a young age, in later life he has become well known as a whale and dolphin enthusiast, having worked for the charity ORCA for a number of years. He has worked for commercial whale-whatching companies as a wildlife guide, advised MPs on marine-conservation matters and contributed to the BBC Wildlife Magazine.

Ivor Rawlinson OBE - Diplomat

Ivor Rawlinson's exciting 40-year diplomatic career has taken him from communist Poland to pre-revolutionary Tunisia, as Ambassador. He was Consul General in Montreal during the tense Quebec independence referendum in 1995. Since retiring he has spent time preparing other Foreign Office staff for retirement and lecturing on the Diplomatic Service. His greatest assets in Quebec were his fluent French, a fascination with the early Canadian explorers and a son who played ice-hockey.

Ernie Rea - Religious affairs broadcaster

Ernie worked for the BBC for nearly 25 years in a variety of production capacities, including a three-year period when he was head of network radio for the south and west of England. In 1989 he became head of religious broadcasting. He now presents 'Beyond Belief', a weekly series on Radio 4 which received a Gold Sony Award in 2005.
