Visit MonteVisit Monte

East Coast Tour (full day)

Enjoy a full-day tour around the scenic east coast of Madeira, stopping at Ribeiro Frio, where you can walk along the Levada Santana, famous for its ‘A-framed’ houses.

You also visit Machico, where you can see Zarco Bay, and pass Santa Cruz on your way back to Funchal.

Lunch is included in the price of the excursion.

Nun’s Valley and Monte (half day)

Enjoy a trip through beautiful countryside to the panoramic viewpoint of Eira do Serrado. From here you can view the Nun’s Valley  (Curral das Freiras), lying at the bottom of a volcanic crater. Stunning views can be enjoyed from here - a real photographer’s dream. To add to the thrill of your afternoon, you go down into the crater, where the village is situated. Here you may sample the local cherry liqueur and cake.

You also visit pretty Monte, famed for its beautiful church and its toboggan rides down the sloping streets to Funchal. These snowless toboggans, called carros de cesto, are guided by straw-hatted men and rides are available for approximately €10 (not included).

Peaks and Wicker Tour (half day)

Enjoy a scenic tour to Camacha, the island’s wickerwork centre, where you have an opportunity to buy some local wicker goods. You then visit Pico de Arieir, the second-highest point of the island accessible by road.

West Coast Tour (full day)

This full-day tour takes in some of Madeira’s most spectacular scenery, including Câmara de Lobos, the village where Winston Churchill used to paint, and passing Ribeira Brava, a pleasant seaside village.

Winding along the coast, your tour takes you past Encumeada, stopping at Cabo Girão, the highest sea cliff in Europe. You continue to São Vicente, where you enjoy a three-course meal, with breathtaking sea views.

Having crossed the plateau, you proceed downhill to Porto Moniz, a small village on the north coast famous for its natural rock pools. You then head inland to climb up to Paul da Serra, a magnificent plateau about 1,600 metres above sea level.

You return to Funchal via Ponta do Sol, where it is said that the sun always shines.

Jeep safaris (full day)

Do not miss out on this unique opportunity to view some of the usually more inaccessible parts of this beautiful island, travelling by jeep. Wonder at the natural grandeur of the island, bursting with flora and fauna, and discover the volcanic terrain that dominates the island.  A number of different itineraries may be available, and prices vary; please ask our representative for full details. All tours include a stop for a barbecue lunch.

Some degree of fitness is required to access the jeeps, and these tours are not recommended for those with walking difficulties or back ailments.
