Cabo de FormentorCabo de Formentor

Formentor, Pollensa and Inca (full day)

Pollensa is a well-preserved medieval town, standing between two hills, the Puig de Maria to the east, and the ‘Calvary Hill’ to the west, crowned with a cross. The low red stone houses of the town open directly out on to the streets through rounded doorways built with massive arched stones. The parish church of Our Lady, and the town hall, formerly a Jesuit monastery, are of interest.

Continue to Formentor, on a peninsula with a well-sheltered beach, which is enhanced by woods and flowered terraces.

You also stop in Inca, renowned for its leather and suede, to visit a leather factory or try one of the town’s specialities, roast suckling pig and lamb, served in a wine-cellar restaurant.

The town’s 13th-century parish church, Santa María la Mayor, was rebuilt in baroque style in the 18th century.

This excursion gives you a true insight into Mallorquin life, architecture and traditions.

Randa and Petra (half day)

Visit the monastery of Randa, built on a high hill, from where you have breathtaking views over most of the island. The monastery is called Santuari de Nostra Dona de Cura and has a long history dating back more than 700 years. Ramón Llull wrote some of his most famous books when he withdrew here for contemplation in 1273.

Continue on to the town of Petra for a visit to the house and museum of the Mallorcan friar Miguel José Serra Ferre, better known as Fray Junípero, who set out in 1713 to become a Franciscan missionary in America. He personally founded nine missions that over time became some of the most important cities in California.

One of the most famous sights in Petra is the 16th-century church of San Pedro, where Fray Junípero was baptised in 1713.
