Kranjska GoraKranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora (half day)

Enjoy an orientation walk around the village, including the small but attractive Lake Jasna, surrounded by the beautiful Julian Alps and popular for walks around the lake, bathing and fishing.

The small, relaxing alpine resort of Kranjska Gora is reminiscent of Switzerland or Austria. Despite modern development, it remains an unspoilt mountain village, complete with its onion-domed church and magnificent displays of window-boxes and hanging baskets.

The Heart of Triglav National Park (half day)

The Triglav National Park became the first part of Slovenia to be proclaimed a nature reserve in 1924.

A coach journey takes you through the beautiful Vrata Valley to the entrance of the northern face of Mt Triglav, the highest peak in the Slovenian Alps.

A highlight is a tour of the Pericnik waterfall, a remnant of the Ice Age during which the largest glacier valley Vrata was shaped on the north side of the Julian Alps. Its waters drop 16 metres down to the first ridge, from where it then descends 52 metres down to the bottom waterfall.

In addition to the above, the following excursions are included on holidays of 14 nights or longer. Subject to availability, guests staying fewer nights may be able to purchase these excursions:

Heritage Trail (half day)

On this excursion you'll gain an insight into the history and natural beauty of the area. You visit the old town of Radovljica on the banks of the Sava River, a charming medieval town which was first mentioned in 1510. In the town centre is a memorial to the Slovenian dramatist Anton Tomazh Linhart, a pretty drinking fountain and lovely 16th century houses, some of which have been turned into museums.

Your next stop is at Begunje. The 12th century Kamen castle lies just outside the village, while the 15th century Katzenstein mansion, rebuilt in the 17th century, is a stark reminder of the dark days of World War II. The building was used by the Gestapo as a prison, and now houses a memorial museum dedicated to its hostages and victims. Part of the building is also a psychiatric hospital. On the drive back to Kranjska Gora there'll be plenty of opportunity to admire the landscapes of the region at each twist and turn of the scenic mountain roads.   "

Austrian Lakes (half day)

Cross the border over the Wurzen Pass into the Austrian province of Carinthia, where pastoral meadows and broad, open countryside alternate with mountains and shimmering blue lakes.

The first lake you visit is Faaker See, with a surface of just over two square kilometres and known for its clear turquoise water.

You then visit the Wörthersee. One of the most famous places on the Wörthersee is Maria Wörth, whose pretty church is often shown on postcards, with the spire reflected in the lake’s waters.

The third lake visited is Ossiacher See.

You return via Villach.

Please remember your passport.
