St Julian's, MaltaSt Julian's, Malta

Orientation tour (approximately one-and-a-half to two hours) until November

Take a scenic drive north along the coastal route towards Xemxija Bay. You'll pass through the old part of St Paul's Bay and Buggiba, completing your journey in St Julian's.

Village and Garden (half day)

Malta is dotted with traditional villages – small settlements clustered around ornate parish churches that are the focal point of village life and celebrations. Many of these villages are redolent of the past and on this excursion you will have the opportunity to experience this unique atmosphere.

You also visit a local garden - the exact location is variable as there may be better places to visit at certain times of the year.

Finally, you visit a local gold market where you can see silver filigree being made.

This excursion may operate in reverse order.

Valletta (half day) from November onwards

Malta’s lovely capital has a fine natural harbour and is home to some of Europe's finest art works, palaces, churches. It's a European Art City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Entrance to St John's Co-Cathedral is included.

In addition, the following excursions are included for all guests staying 14 nights or longer. Subject to availability, guests staying seven nights may be able to purchase these excursions:

Hidden Charms (half day) until November 2013

Visit Mellieha, renowned for its large private villas overlooking the bay. Beneath the Parish Church is the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin, a national shrine. St Luke reputedly painted a fresco of the Madonna and Child.

A photo stop is made at Popeye’s Village. You will then visit the small rural district of Manikata Village, with the modern parish church of St Joseph.

Continuing via the sandy Golden Bay, you visit the typical rural village of Mgarr, home to two of Malta’s oldest prehistoric sites, Ta’ Hagrat and Skorba. You will also get to see a World War II air raid shelter.

Sunday Market and Aviation Museum (half day)

This excursion takes you to a local market, where you can hunt for clothes, souvenirs and bric-a-brac.

Then it's on to the Aviation Museum that houses, amongst other things, a WWII Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane that had been at the bottom of the sea for 54 years before being salvaged and restored by the volunteers at the museum in 1995.

Hagar Qim (half day) from November onwards

Visit the megalithic temple complex built between 3600-3200 BC and enjoy a photo stop at the Blue Grotto.
