Explore El Jem
The small town of El Jem boasts some of the most impressive and well-preserved Roman architecture in Africa, including an amphitheatre dating from the third-century AD. This magnificent amphitheatre was used chiefly for chariot races and gladiator contests, and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. After the Roman period it served as a citadel for the people of the town. Explore El Jem on an included excursion.
