Kairouan (half day)

This holy town is home to the Great Mosque, one of Islam’s most important places of worship.

Kairouan is the holy city of North Africa. The Muslim conquerors chose this site for their capital in 668 AD. Kairouan means ‘caravan’ and it was a stopping point on an important caravan route.

On this excursion, you will see the exteriors of the Great Mosque and the Berber Mosque, which have extremely beautiful plasterwork.

There may also be an opportunity to visit a local souk and to see a local carpet factory.

Monastir (half day)

See the Ribat, a large fortified Islamic monastery which towers over the harbour, and explore the town itself.
