If you’re inclined to lakeside strolls and the soft song of ‘o sole mio’ echoing across still waters, then a Lake Molveno holiday might well be for you. Situated just to the north of another of Italy’s great lakes, Lake Garda, Molveno provides ample excuses to get out and explore in amongst the Trento region.
The surrounding scenery is just as sublime as the lake’s blue hues with Adamello-Brenta Nature Park filled with fir covered mountain slopes and rocky glacial peaks. Alternatively, if you’re planning on hiking above the tree line, take the cable car to the Pradel plateau for fresh air and panoramas.

This is the largest protected parkland in the Trento area and home to a variety of indigenous animals including ibex, groundhogs, stoats and brown bears. Throughout the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park you’ll find a multitude of mountain lakes and rivers as well as some of the least touched environments in the whole of the Italian Alps. It’s the perfect place to take off on a hiking trail or pack a picnic basket with a chunk of fontal cheese and a slab of Trentino salami.
One of the best day trip destinations if you’re on holiday in Lake Molveno is the city of Trento. Situated just an hour’s drive from the lake and peppered with art galleries and regional restaurants, this is where folk head for an authentic taste of la dolce vita surrounded by alpine scenery. Come for the medieval frescos in Buonconsiglio Castle, the beautiful Baroque chapel in the cathedral and the frescoed façade of the Casa Cazuffi-Rella situated on the people watching paradise of Piazza Duomo.

The flight time from the UK to Trento is two hours. From there it’s just an hour’s drive to Lake Molveno.

Due to Lake Molveno’s northerly location it can get exceptionally cold during the winter. This is when snow tends to fall in the mountains from December through to the end of March. Summers, on the other hand, are pleasantly warm although you can expect the occasional air clearing thunderstorm when humidity levels rise during July and August.
