National Parks of Montenegro

Join an exciting adventure into Montenegro's rarely-visited interior. Travelling in vehicles with just three other Saga guests, and led by an experienced driver guide, you’ll follow precipitous mountain passes, negotiate hairpin bends and head off-road along farm tracks and forest trails to explore one of Europe’s last great wildernesses. On your journey you’ll pause to admire breathtaking views and rest for delicious, traditional lunches.

Day 1: Set off from your hotel and head inland towards the UNESCO-protected park of Durmitor. Stop to see Ostrog Monastery and enjoy a lunch of traditional Montenegran specialities , then continue to Komarnica Canyon and Zabljak, the highest town in the Balkan Peninsula. Stay two nights half-board here at the chalet-style Polar Star (3Q).

Day 2: On today’s drive see the Black Lake, Tara River Canyon, Durmitor Mountain, Susice Canyon and the strange ‘stone cuts’ rock formations. Lunch will be a simple, traditional picnic.

Day 3: Set off to first see some old Grecian ruins then drive through the picturesque Tara Canyon into Biogradska Gora National Park. After a picnic lunch there’ll be time for a walk amid the mountain scenery and a photostop at Biogradsko Lake before you arrive at Kolasin and the Bianca Resort and Spa (4Q).

Day 4: Today you’ll visit the ski centre of Jezerine then drive through the Kucke Mountains past more lakes and canyons and into Skadar Lake National Park where you'll be greeted with stunning views. Stay tonight in the capital of Podgorica at the Hotel City (3Q).

Day 5: After breakfast you travel back to your main hotel to collect your luggage then depart for your return flight home.

What to expect from your trip…

You travel in a modern Toyota Land Cruiser four-wheel-drive vehicle, which carries a maximum of five people. The knowledgeable driver will also be your guide and he or she will have a good command of English. Most of the day is spent on the road (or off it!), but there will be plenty of stops to look at the sights and stretch your legs.
