Discover the ancient attractions of Delhi before journeying through breathtaking scenery to the tiny mountain kingdom of Bhutan, with stops to visit the hill stations of Darjeeling and Gangtok en route.

Day 1 UK to Delhi

After taking Saga's included UK door-to-door travel service to Gatwick, fly overnight to Delhi.

Day 2 Delhi


Transfer to the Suryaa Hotel (4Q) for a two-night stay. Enjoy a lecture on Bhutan and the Darjeeling and Sikkim hills. D

Day 3 Delhi


Join an included tour of Delhi. This evening there's an optional sound and light show at the Red Fort. B, L, D

Optional excursions

The eventful 500-year history that the Red Fort has witnessed is brought out at a spectacular Sound and Light Show on the ramparts. Captivating special effects combine with the unique ambience to make this show a haunting, unforgettable experience. 

Day 4 Delhi to Bagdogra to Darjeeling


Fly to Bagdogra and journey through spectacular scenery to the hill station of Darjeeling. Stay two nights at the Mayfair Resort Darjeeling (4Q). B, D

Day 5 Darjeeling


Perhaps join an optional excursion to see the sun rise over the Himalayas. Later, ride on the world famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and visit a renowned Buddhist monastery. Visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Himalayan Zoological Park and the Tibetan Refugee Centre. B, D

Optional excursions

Tiger Hill is the summit of Ghoom, the highest railway station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, famous for its dawn views of the Kanchenjunga massif and the eastern Himalayas. Travel to the summit by four-wheel drive vehicle.

If you wish to participate in this excursion, you will need to leave the hotel between 4am and 4.45am!

Day 6 Darjeeling to Gangtok


Travel to Gangtok where you stay for two nights at the Mayfair Resort Gangtok (4Q). B, D

Day 7 Gangtok


Enjoy an included visit to the nearby Rumtek Monastery. Perhaps join an optional excursion to visit the Enchey Monastery and other sites today. B, D

Optional excursions

About three kilometres from the town of Enchey Gompa, the monastery, built in 1909, occupies a spectacular position on a mountain ridge overlooking Gangtok. Look out for the enormous prayer wheels that are large enough for a man to walk inside.

Day 8 Gangtok to Phuntsholing


Cross into the Kingdom of Bhutan at Phuntsholing where you stay overnight at the Druk Phuntsholing (2Q). B, L, D

Day 9 Phuntsholing to Thimphu


Travel to Bhutan's capital and stay for the next two nights at the Hotel Kisa (2Q) or the Hotel Migmar (2Q). B, L, D

Day 10 Thimphu


Join an included tour. Lunch is at a local restaurant followed by a visit to Trashichhoedzong, the seat of government and centre of religion, the King’s Memorial and a handicraft emporium. B, L, D

Day 11 Thimphu-Paro

Simtokha Dzong

Visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, on the way to Paro. In the afternoon visit either Dungtse Lhakhang or the National Museum and Rinpung Dzong. Stay two nights at the Hotel Olathang (2Q) or the Tashi Namgay Resort (2Q). B, L, D

Day 12 Paro

Taktsang Monastery

See the area’s most important sites including the ruined fortress, Drukgyel Dzong, and the monastery at Taktsang. Later perhaps watch an optional Bhutanese show. B, L, D

Optional excursions

A colourful performance of dance, accompanied by Bhutanese music provides a fascinating insight into the cultural and religious traditions of the region. The ornate costumes and intriguing wooden masks worn by the performers create a spectacular visual display.

Day 13 Paro to Kolkata


Leave Bhutan today and fly to Kolkata where you stay two nights at the Oberoi Grand Hotel (4Q). B, D

Day 14 Kolkata


This morning you may like to visit a flower market on an optional excursion. Join an included tour of Kolkata’s main sights. B, D

Optional excursions

An early morning visit takes you to the flower market close to Howrah Bridge, one of the largest flower markets in Asia, featuring a huge variety of flowers. Soak up the atmosphere as you wander around hundreds of stalls and see up to 2,000 flower growers from the surrounding area selling their produce.

Day 15 Kolkata to UK


Travel to the airport for your overnight flight back to the UK. B
