2015

Day 1 UK to Delhi

Delhi

After taking Saga’s included UK door-to-door travel service to Gatwick, fly overnight to Delhi. You're met at the airport and taken to the Suryaa Hotel (4Q) for a two-night stay. Enjoy a lecture on Bhutan and the Darjeeling and Sikkim hills.


Day 3 Delhi

Delhi

Join an included tour of Delhi with lunch at a local restaurant.


Day 4 Delhi to Bagdogra to Darjeeling

Darjeeling

Fly to Bagdogra from where you journey through spectacular scenery to the hill station of Darjeeling. Stay two nights at the Mayfair Resort Darjeeling (4Q) with the rest of the afternoon at leisure.


Day 5 Darjeeling

Darjeeling

Perhaps join an optional excursion to see the sun rise over the Himalayas. Later, ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and visit a renowned Buddhist monastery. In the afternoon visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Himalayan Zoological Park and the Tibetan Refugee Centre.



Optional excursions

Tiger Hill is the summit of Ghoom, the highest railway station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, and is famous for its magnificent dawn views of the Kanchenjunga massif and the eastern Himalayas.

Day 6 Darjeeling to Gangtok

Gangtok

Travel to Gangtok where you stay for two nights at the Mayfair Resort Gangtok (4Q).


Day 7 Gangtok

Gangtok

Enjoy an included visit to the nearby Rumtek Monastery. Perhaps join an optional excursion to visit the Enchey Monastery and other sites today.


Day 8 Gangtok to Phuntsholing

Phuntsholing

Cross into the Kingdom of Bhutan at Phuntsholing where you stay overnight at the Druk Phuntsholing (2Q). Lunch is included en route.


Day 9 Phuntsholing to Thimphu

Thimph

Travel to Bhutan's capital with lunch at a local restaurant en route. You stay for the next two nights at the Hotel Kisa (2Q) or the Hotel Migmar (2Q).


Day 10 Thimphu

Thimphu

An included tour takes you to the National Library, the painting school and the Textile and Folk Heritage Museum. Lunch is at a local restaurant followed by a visit to Trashichhoedzong, the seat of government and centre of religion. You also visit the King’s Memorial and a handicraft emporium..


Day 11 Thimphu-Paro

Punakha

Visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, on the way to Paro. In the afternoon visit either Dungtse Lhakhang or the National Museum and Rinpung Dzong. Stay two nights at the Hotel Olathang (2Q) or the Tashi Namgay Resort (2Q).


Day 13 Punakha to Paro

Simtokha Dzong

Visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, on the way to Paro. Lunch is included. In the afternoon visit Dungtse Lhakhang and Rinpung Dzong. Stay two nights at the Hotel Olathang (2Q) or the Tashi Namgay Resort (2Q).


Day 15 Paro to Kolkata

Kolkata

Leave Bhutan today and fly to Kolkata where you stay two nights at the Oberoi Grand Hotel (4Q).


Day 14 Kolkata

Kolkata

This morning you may like to visit a flower market on an optional excursion. Join an included tour of Kolkata’s main sights.


Day 15 Kolkata to UK

Kolkata

Travel to the airport for your overnight flight, arriving the following morning for your onward UK door-to-door travel service.

Travel to Punakha with a stop at Dochula Pass to admire the views. After an included lunch, visit the Punakha Dzong. Stay two nights at the Damchen Resort (2Q) or at the Punatsangchhu Cottages (2Q).


Day 12 Punakha

Punakha

Visit a local market and see the temple of Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten before visiting Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang, a nunnery situated on a hillock overlooking the Punakha and Wangdue valleys. Return to Punakha for lunch at a local restaurant and see Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple, this afternoon.


Day 13 Punakha to Paro

On today’s included excursion you see the area’s most important sites including the ruined fortress, Drukgyel Dzong, and Bhutan’s most famous monastery at Taktsang. Lunch is included.


Day 15 Paro to Kolkata

Leave Bhutan today and fly to Kolkata where you stay two nights at the Oberoi Grand Hotel (4Q).


Day 16 Kolkata
