Day 1 UK to Johannesburg
After taking Saga’s UK included door-to-door travel service to the airport, fly overnight to South Africa.
Day 2 Johannesburg to Clarens
On arrival you will be driven into the Free State to spend two nights at the Protea Hotel Clarens (4Q).
Day 3 Clarens
Spend today at leisure and perhaps explore this charming village which is situated in Maluti Mountain foothills.
Day 4 Clarens to Isandlwana
Take a drive through the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, famous for its colourful sandstone cliffs. Continue to the heart of Zululand, pausing for lunch at the Thulana Museum in Dundee before two nights at Isandlwana Lodge (4Q).
Day 5 Isandlwana
Find out about the Anglo-Zulu battles with visits to Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift.
Day 6 Isandlwana to Southern Drakensberg
Depart for the Southern Drakensberg where you’ll stay for two nights at the Sani Pass Hotel (3Q).
Day 7 Sani Pass
Today is at leisure.
An optional 4x4 vehicle tour of the Sani Pass across the border into Lesotho.
Day 8 Sani Pass to Natal Coast
Depart after breakfast to the coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Stay overnight at Pumula Beach Hotel (4Q), set in a quiet village.
Day 9 Natal Coast
Day at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotel facilities, with all meals included. Both hotel’s grounds stretch down to a sandy beach. In season (June – November) you may see humpback whales from the hotel grounds.
Day 10 Natal Coast to Mbotyi
Travel into the spectacular Transkei to remote Pondoland and the Mbotyi River Lodge (3Q), where you stay three nights. The Lodge overlooks the estuary and Indian Ocean and accommodation is in simple, comfortable wooden chalets.
Day 11 Mbotyi
A 4x4 vehicle tour reveals spectacular waterfalls plunging into the ocean. Also enjoy a barbecue lunch.
Day 12 Mbotyi
Perhaps set out independently for a walk using maps provided by the lodge.
Take an optional guided walk to a local village.
Day 13 Mbotyi to Mthatha to Mpongo
Stop at the Nelson Mandela Museum in his home town of Mthatha. Continue to Mpongo Private Game Reserve (4Q), a malaria-free reserve, for a two-night stay.
Day 14 Mpongo Game Reserve
An included morning game drive goes in search of four of the ‘big five’ – lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Lunch included. This afternoon enjoy a walk to learn about ‘white lion’.
An optional second game drive is available.
Day 15 Mpongo Game Reserve-East London-UK
After breakfast you travel to the airport for your return overnight flight via Johannesburg and your included UK door-to-door travel service.
Early this morning, you could join an additional optional game drive.
