Tsavo East National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya and combined with Tsavo West National Park, covers an estimated four percent of the country's total land area.

The diverse combination of vast plains, watercourses, rivers and waterfalls against a backdrop of distant hills make it an ideal place to spot a wide range of wildlife, including Tsavo's famous herds of red elephant.

Other species of game include rhino, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra and over 500 species of bird including ostrich, kestrel and white buzzard.

Crocodile Rock Picnic

After breakfast at the lodge this morning you are taken to the famous Lugard Falls. These falls on the Galana River were formed when lava flowed from Mount Kilimanjaro after an eruption millions of years ago. The falls are approximately 100 metres in height and the water is home to a large number of crocodiles. The falls are named after Captain Frederick Lugard (1858-1945), who was Britain’s first pro-consul of East Africa. By the river lies the Yatta Plateau, 30 metres high and 300 kilometres long, which is considered the longest in the world. This plateau divides the Tasvo Plains and the Tana Delta. A walk along the cliffs takes you to the panoramic Crocodile Point, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful views while you eat your picnic lunch. Please note that this part of the excursion is subject to change in the event of poor weather.
