Our brand new ship is coming to life!

After two years of designing and planning, we’re excited to reveal the name of our first ever purpose-built cruise ship.

'Spirit of Discovery' will take to the oceans in Summer 2019, and heralds a new era for Saga Cruising.

Carrying less than 1000 guests in true luxury and style, this small ship will have a private balcony with every cabin, a world-class selection of main and speciality restaurants, and a host of other fantastic facilities.

Cruising on Spirit of Discovery will offer the chance to experience so much more – to explore the world, to taste the local food and to really experience the local cultures. All aboard a luxury ship designed for the British market, and backed by Saga’s famous personal service and inclusive value.

The first cruises will go on sale this September, but if you can’t wait until then, you can contact us now and make an Advance Registration for just £90. We’ll even give you an exclusive 5% discount off the price of your cruise! Call FREE on 0800 015 4310 to reserve your place.

If you change your mind about your Registration or if we’re unable to confirm your booking nearer the time, your deposit will be refunded in full*. So you have nothing to lose!

Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the most exciting time in Saga’s history!

Robin Shaw

No one is more passionate about Spirit of Discovery than Saga Cruises’ Chief Executive, Robin Shaw…

Designing a new cruise ship is fun, exciting and challenging all in one, and for the past two years we’ve been listening to our customers, taking feedback, and fine tuning every detail of the design.

And what a ship Spirit of Discovery is going to be! One of her most unique features will be that every cabin will have a balcony, giving each guest their own private space at sea.

She is also going to be the only small ship tailored to the wants and needs of the British market, and to our exacting high levels of quality and service. It’s a really fantastic time to be a part of this next stage of Saga’s journey. Quote

David Pickett

As Spirit of Discovery takes shape, we also caught up with David Pickett, who is spearheading the project, to see how things are progressing…

We are currently liaising closely with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, and every day is full of exciting developments.

A huge amount of thought and detail has gone into the design and construction of Spirit of Discovery. We’ve just finalised the sizes of the restaurants and the theatre. The designs of the stunning balcony cabins are also being finalised. The whole ship certainly has the ‘wow’ factor!

At the moment we’re heavily focused on technical design, the engine, generator and propulsion plant. Everything to make sure we deliver a practical, working ship of the highest specification. It’s a challenge, but certainly an exciting one. Quote

Andy Yuell

We also chatted to Andy Yuill, an expert in creating cutting-edge designs for the world’s finest vessels, to see what he has in store for Saga’s exciting new project.

I think people are going to be surprised by what Saga will deliver with this ship – expect the unexpected! We are maintaining the best bits of the existing brand, but introducing new and unexpected elements. It’s a ship built for a British company, with the customers at the forefront.

At the moment we’re working closely with the Saga team to ensure that we understand their vision which we can then develop, and turn into a reality. Plus, we’re very fortunate to be building at Meyer Werft where I have gained considerable experience over the years – they’re the best in the world. Quote
