Holidays to Cyprus

Sunny shores and sensational food

There’s a lot to love about Cyprus. Sitting in the far south-east of the Med, it basks in year-round sunshine (average highs still hit 19°C in December). The scenery is just as glorious, with sandy beaches and pebbled bays giving way to the lush greenery of the Troodos Mountains. The food is delicious – a mouth-watering mix of Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern – and there are some great local wines to sample.

Our hosted hotel holidays in Cyprus focus on popular Paphos, where you’ll find pretty beaches and great shopping and dining scenes. Or explore the towns and villages of the north on an escorted tour, where there’s layer upon layer of fascinating history to uncover. No matter where you go, you can expect a warm welcome and a generous helping of Cypriot hospitality – prepare to be completely and utterly charmed.

On the west coast, Paphos is always a popular pick for Cyprus holidays. A lengthy, café-lined promenade snakes along the seafront, and there are scores of shops and bars in the town centre. Save time to visit the UNESCO-listed Tombs of the Kings, a couple of kilometres away.

Head to the island’s lesser-visited north and you’ll find pretty harbourside towns, centuries-old monasteries, and historic inns that once served as stopping-off points for Silk Road traders. The divided capital of Nicosia is well worth a visit, as are the ruins at the ancient city of Salamis.

Cyprus’ long hot summers and mild winters make it a real year-round destination. In the summer, expect very little rain and average temperatures in the high 20s. Over the winter months, things cool down but are still pleasant – the mercury hovers in the mid to high teens. Spring and autumn offer the best of both worlds, with temperatures warm enough for outdoor dips and al fresco dining, but cool enough for comfortable sightseeing.

Greek and Turkish are the main languages, though English is widely spoken.
